HV / Electrical Coordinator – High Voltage Safety Lead

About the role
The HV / Electrical Coordinator will oversee electrical safety during the construction and commissioning of critical water and wastewater infrastructure for Southern Water Amp 8 programmes in Southampton. Reporting to the parent company’s designated individuals, you will act as the regional electrical H&S focal point, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, industry standards and internal policies.
Key responsibilities
- Administer and maintain LV/HV electrical safety rules, ensuring they reflect legislative and industry changes.
- Provide technical and quality support to project, M&E and site managers and manage subcontractors to meet safety, quality and design requirements.
- Act as the central electrical safety figure, supporting the area H&S team and reviewing project resources and competencies.
- Lead hazard studies, safe systems of work (including Hydraulics and ATEX/DSEAR), and attend authorising engineer review panels.
- Oversee documentation, inspection and testing procedures, conduct authorised person audits and support procurement in vetting supply‑chain competence.
Required profile
- Minimum 2 years recent experience as an Authorising Engineer or Authorised Person (5+ years overall) in electrical installation.
- HND/HNC or Level 3 in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, risk assessment and control measures.
Required skills
- IET Wiring Regulation – 18th Edition certification.
- BS7671 Low Voltage systems knowledge.
- BS7430 earthing systems knowledge.
- EAWR 1989 compliance.
- PUWER regulations and Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
- COSHH awareness.
- High Voltage safety awareness, switching schedules, fault currents and safe systems of work.
