HVAC Engineer – RAF Fairford (Full‑time)

About the role

Our client, a key defence infrastructure operator, is seeking an experienced HVAC Engineer to maintain and optimise heating, ventilation and air‑conditioning systems across two secure sites in Gloucestershire. The role supports operational readiness and essential services, working within a technically challenging environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and statutory compliance inspections.
• Diagnose faults and perform reactive maintenance and repairs.
• Complete minor installation and refurbishment works.
• Interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using PDA/tablet‑based systems.
• Ensure work complies with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures, including RAMS documentation.
• Identify and report equipment defects and compliance concerns.
• Build positive relationships with stakeholders, subcontractors and customers.
• Support and mentor apprentices as required.
• Participate in an on‑call rota covering evenings, nights and weekends.

Required profile

• City & Guilds qualification in Air Conditioning or equivalent.
• F‑Gas Category 1 certification.
• Safe Handling of Refrigerants qualification.
• Proven experience in HVAC maintenance and fault diagnosis.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation (COSHH, RIDDOR).
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to obtain Security Clearance (SC).
• Desirable: experience in commercial or defence environments, knowledge of JSP 375, first aid or additional H&S qualifications, existing security clearance, hydrocarbon refrigerant certification, professional body membership.

What we offer

• Salary £40,000‑£43,000 per annum
• £150 per week on‑call allowance
• Overtime paid time‑and‑a‑half (Mon‑Sat) and double time (Sun)
• Minimum four‑hour payment for call‑out attendance
