Import Customs Coordinator

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Import Customs Coordinator to join our Basildon team on a permanent basis. You will be responsible for managing customs declarations, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations, and delivering excellent service to internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit import, export and cross‑trade customs declarations using HMRC’s CDS.
• Maintain accurate records of financial, legal and invoicing transactions related to customs activities.
• Report amendments to declarations and conduct spot checks on customer entries.
• Generate weekly reports and ensure timely invoicing (within 48 hours) and application of duties and VAT.
• Collaborate with sales and credit control teams, providing quotations within 2 hours and following up outstanding payments.
• Identify and implement workflow efficiencies and ensure all required reports are submitted on schedule.
• Manage deferment account approvals and oversee insurance charge applications.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year experience in customs, imports or customs compliance.
• Proven experience raising import declarations using the HMRC CDS platform.
• Strong understanding of UK customs regulations, procedures and the UK Trade Tariff.
• Familiarity with import licensing requirements and commodity classifications.

Required skills

• HMRC CDS (Customs Declaration Service) operation.
• Knowledge of the UK Trade Tariff and commodity classification.
