Import Operations Clerk

About the role

We are looking for an Import Operations Clerk to join our busy logistics team in Basildon. The role involves managing the full import cycle, from pre‑alert to shipment release, ensuring accuracy and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the end‑to‑end import process using the in‑house system, from receiving pre‑alerts to releasing shipments.
• Issue invoices to UK importers ahead of arrival and enter accurate cost estimates in the correct accounting month.
• Check purchase invoices, approve payments, raise disputes when necessary, and close files once all charges are applied.
• Obtain exchange rates from carriers and update internal systems.
• Arrange and book deliveries with hauliers and monitor port health holds.
• Handle daily email communication with customers, hauliers and warehouse partners.
• Pass clearance instructions to the customs clearance team promptly and accurately.

Required profile

• Proven experience in an Imports department within a shipping or freight forwarding company.
• Strong understanding of import procedures and documentation.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
• Confident communicator able to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
• Proactive, reliable and committed to delivering high‑quality service.

What we offer

• Salary up to £30,000 per year, dependent on experience.
