In-house Litigation Lawyer – Water & Renewables

About the role

The In‑house Litigation Lawyer will lead the management of civil disputes across Pennon Group’s water and renewable businesses. You will handle litigation matters, work with external counsel and provide commercially‑focused legal advice to protect the organisation’s interests.

Key responsibilities

• Manage civil litigation including nuisance, negligence, property and commercial disputes.
• Instruct and oversee external counsel, ensuring cost‑effective representation.
• Provide expert advice on business risk, statutory duties and water‑industry regulations.
• Represent the company in defended debt recovery and property damage claims.
• Support customer complaint resolution and engage with the Consumer Council for Water’s mediation processes.
• Collaborate with the Insurance team on third‑party recovery claims.
• Negotiate, draft and advise on settlements and legal agreements.
• Lead legal risk assessments and advise internal stakeholders on mitigation.
• Stay updated on legal developments affecting the water sector.
• Support enforcement actions under the Water Industry Act 1991.
• Deliver training on key legal and regulatory topics.

Required profile

• UK‑qualified solicitor with a minimum of 4 years PQE.
• Strong experience in dispute resolution and civil litigation.
• Ability to analyse complex legal issues and devise practical solutions.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining legal concepts to non‑legal audiences.
• Commercially aware, confident and able to build strong internal relationships.
