Independent Chair – Safeguarding

About the role

The Independent Chair will lead child protection conferences for Leicester City Council, ensuring that safeguarding decisions place children at the centre of the service. The role combines in‑person initial hearings with flexible review meetings, delivered through a hybrid model of on‑site and remote work.

Key responsibilities

• Chair initial child protection conferences, primarily at Halford House.
• Chair review conferences, offering face‑to‑face or virtual options for families.
• Quality‑assure the progression of child protection plans and safeguarding decisions.
• Provide support for Looked‑After Children (LAC) reviews and Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) duties as required.

Required profile

• Substantial post‑qualifying experience in childcare or social work.
• Current knowledge of childcare legislation, policy and practice guidance.
• Proven ability to chair complex, multi‑agency meetings independently.
• Willingness to work full‑time and attend conferences twice daily.

Required skills

• Strong leadership and decision‑making in safeguarding contexts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for report preparation.
