Individual Needs Assistant – Secondary School (Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Individual Needs Assistant to support students with identified special educational needs in a secondary school setting. This temporary full‑time position plays a key role in helping pupils access and succeed in their GCSE studies while fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist students with identified special educational needs to progress in their GCSE studies.
• Deliver targeted small‑group support, including pre‑teach and post‑teach reinforcement of curriculum content.
• Clarify instructions, help students use equipment and materials, and support areas such as speech, language, behaviour, reading, spelling, numeracy and handwriting.
• Liaise with class teachers, SENDCO and other professionals to develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs).
• Implement agreed behaviour‑management strategies and adapt learning activities as needed.
• Provide regular feedback on student learning and behaviour to teachers and SENDCO.

Required profile

• Experience working with children, especially those with special educational needs.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build supportive relationships.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
• Knowledge of school policies on child protection, health and safety, behaviour, teaching and learning, and equal opportunities.
• Proficiency in using ICT for learning activities.
