Information & Knowledge Management Specialist

About the role

The Information & Knowledge Management Specialist will lead the alignment of information, documentation and knowledge practices with internal policies and external defence‑sector regulations. This 6‑month contract role is based in Reading with a hybrid working model and requires an active SC clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with the GIGO IKM Lead to ensure internal policies match external compliance requirements.
• Advise business units on knowledge‑management best practices and promote consistent adoption.
• Support design, optimisation and continuous improvement of document and contract management processes, systems and governance models.
• Champion information lifecycle management (creation, classification, storage, retention, archiving, disposal) in line with defence and regulatory standards.
• Promote structured repositories and metadata usage to improve discoverability, version control and traceability.
• Collaborate with data, digital and compliance teams to embed knowledge‑management considerations into tools and change initiatives.
• Deliver training on information policies, tools such as SharePoint, and best‑practice ways of working.

Required profile

• Technical degree desirable (e.g., computer science, engineering or related field).
• Demonstrated experience in information and knowledge management within large or regulated organisations.
• Strong understanding of information governance, policy frameworks and compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with document and contract lifecycle processes, including control, versioning, approval workflows and audit obligations.
• Active SC clearance.
