Instrumentation, Control and Automation Technician

About the role

Join Southern Water's Fresh Water Team to maintain and improve instrumentation, control and automation (ICA) systems across multiple sites. You will ensure compliance, reliability and efficiency while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Planned, reactive and proactive maintenance, fault finding, calibration, testing and programming of telemetry, analysers and dosing equipment.
• Maintain control networks, MCC/LVA components, PID controllers and instrumentation such as flowmeters, level transmitters, pressure transducers and temperature probes.
• Diagnose PLC control system faults on Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley and other plant PLCs.
• Perform HMI and SCADA system backups, modifications and documentation.
• Set up and maintain site control networks, respond to alarms and complete accurate records.
• Implement process improvements and support on‑call duties.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent apprenticeship.
• Strong problem‑solving and fault‑finding abilities.
• Full UK driving licence and residence within 45 minutes of the sites.
• Experience with PLC programming and SCADA systems.
• Desirable experience in water, petrochemical or manufacturing environments and ONC/HNC in Instrumentation, Electronics or Control.
