Interconnects Design Engineer – Test Equipment (6‑month contract)

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Interconnects Design Engineer to join our defence organisation on a six‑month contract, with the possibility of extension. You will create bespoke electrical interconnects and cable assemblies that transmit power, signals and high‑speed data across complex subsystems, working both on‑site and remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Translate subsystem requirements into detailed electrical schematics, wiring topologies and 2D cable assembly drawings using MS Visio and HarnWare.
• Lead investigations into interconnect issues and develop robust design solutions within multidisciplinary teams.
• Collaborate with production teams to resolve manufacturing queries and support functional and environmental testing.
• Manage product data, revisions and change processes in Windchill or equivalent PDM/PLM systems.
• Coordinate with internal engineering groups, production units and external suppliers to ensure timely delivery of work packages.

Required profile

• Degree, HND or HNC in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or a related discipline.
• Minimum two years of hands‑on experience designing electrical harnesses and cable assemblies.
• Strong understanding of current carrying capacity, voltage drop, signal types, screening, EMC and environmental constraints.
• Proven experience using PDM/PLM tools for configuration and change control.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

What we offer

• Rate of £50.00 per hour.
• Hybrid working model – 2‑3 days on site, remainder remote.
