Interim Designated Safeguarding Lead

About the role

This interim position offers an experienced safeguarding professional the chance to lead child protection across two academy sites in Bromley. Reporting to the senior leadership team, you will shape strategy and ensure compliance with statutory guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all safeguarding and child protection activity across both schools.
• Provide leadership and support to operational safeguarding teams.
• Manage complex safeguarding cases, referrals and multi‑agency partnerships.
• Advise staff and leaders on legislation, policy and best practice.
• Collaborate with Children’s Social Care, Police, Health Services and local authorities.
• Conduct safeguarding audits, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
• Maintain up‑to‑date records, policies and procedures in line with statutory guidance.
• Deliver training and promote a strong safeguarding culture.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy DSL ready to step up.
• Strong knowledge of KCSIE, Working Together to Safeguard Children, the Prevent Duty and related legislation.
• Proven ability to manage complex cases within an education setting.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• Confident working with external agencies and multi‑disciplinary professionals.
• Calm, professional approach with sound judgement.
