Interim Director of Finance

About the role

This interim position is with a newly established, government‑backed body driving a national programme to transform data and research access across the UK. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will build a high‑performing finance function and provide strategic financial leadership during a critical growth phase.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the finance strategy, governance framework and operating model.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audit and risk management activities.
• Ensure stewardship of public funds and compliance with public‑sector requirements.
• Support organisational set‑up, transition activities and the establishment of systems, processes and controls.
• Advise the Board and executive team on financial matters and strategic decisions.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Significant senior finance leadership experience, preferably in the public sector or publicly funded bodies.
• Proven experience advising Boards and senior executives.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑moving, evolving environment.
