Interim Finance Director

About the role

We are supporting a well‑established construction business in Leeds with an Interim Finance Director to provide strategic financial leadership during a period of rapid growth and transformation. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will own the finance function and partner with the executive team to drive commercial performance and robust governance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the finance function, ensuring strong financial control, governance and balance‑sheet integrity.
• Oversee month‑end and financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management.
• Develop long‑term financial plans and capital‑expenditure strategies, including investment appraisals and business cases.
• Provide commercial insight, challenge and decision‑support to operational teams.
• Manage joint‑venture reporting and key stakeholder relationships.
• Lead year‑end audit processes and ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement of finance systems, controls and reporting.
• Mentor and develop the wider finance team, fostering a high‑performance culture.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Previous experience as an Interim Finance Director, Finance Director or senior Head of Finance in construction, housebuilding, engineering or a similar project‑based environment.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and board‑level executives.
• Comfortable leading through change and delivering results in a fast‑paced setting.
• Available to start on short notice.
