Interim Financial Accountant (18‑month contract)

About the role

MacKenzie King is seeking an Interim Financial Accountant for an 18‑month assignment based north of Colchester. You will join a collaborative finance team and play a pivotal role in delivering accurate financial reporting, ensuring compliance, and supporting transformation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of monthly, quarterly and year‑end financial reporting.
• Prepare and post journals with minimal supervision.
• Support the preparation and completion of statutory accounts and group reporting submissions.
• Perform reconciliations of debtor, creditor and inter‑company balances across multiple entities.
• Produce and review balance‑sheet reconciliations, investigating discrepancies.
• Liaise with external auditors, tax advisers and other stakeholders, providing documentation and responding to queries.
• Ensure accounting policies, controls and governance requirements are applied consistently.
• Lead and support finance improvement projects, including systems enhancements and process optimisation.
• Mentor junior team members and potentially assume line‑management responsibilities.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Minimum two years post‑qualification experience.
• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proven analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
