Interim Head Teacher

About the role

We are looking for an Interim Head Teacher to lead a SEND residential school and college in Brighton. This temporary position will provide strategic, inspirational, and operational leadership to ensure high‑quality education and residential care.

Key responsibilities

• Inspire, challenge and empower staff and students to achieve their full potential.
• Collaborate with Trustees, Governors, parents and the wider community to shape the school’s ethos and values.
• Develop and implement a strategic plan with sound financial oversight.
• Monitor performance against comparable organisations and report to Trustees and Governors.
• Oversee management, finance, administration and ensure they support the school’s vision.
• Promote high‑quality teaching, effective learning, excellent residential practice and positive behaviour.
• Support the Residential Manager to meet and continuously improve minimum standards of care.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in an educational setting, preferably residential.
• Strong strategic thinking and long‑term planning abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.
• Knowledge of statutory frameworks (Companies House, Charity Commission, DfE, etc.).
