Interim Insurance Manager

About the role

The University of Oxford is seeking an Interim Insurance Manager to lead its Insurance Office for a 12‑month fixed‑term. You will oversee day‑to‑day insurance operations, guide a small team, and ensure the university’s insurance programme remains cost‑effective and aligned with risk‑management strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the insurance team of 3‑4 professionals.
• Provide expert advice on all classes of insurance and risk mitigation.
• Oversee claims management, including liability and complex claims.
• Develop and deliver insurance and risk‑management projects during the appointment.
• Ensure compliance with university policies and external regulations.

Required profile

• Significant experience in insurance and risk management, preferably within a large, complex organisation.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a small team and manage stakeholder relationships.
• Strong analytical and decision‑making skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of all insurance classes of business.
• Expertise in claims handling and liability management.
• Understanding of risk‑management frameworks and regulatory compliance.

What we offer

• Grade 9 salary range £56,623 – £65,336 per annum (visible).
