Interim Payroll Manager

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Interim Payroll Manager to support a not‑for‑profit organisation in Romford during a three‑month system transformation. The role is hybrid and will involve leading payroll operations while driving improvements to the payroll platform.

Key responsibilities

• Lead payroll system transformation and related process‑improvement projects.
• Manage end‑to‑end payroll delivery, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain full compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC, pensions and statutory payments.
• Review, document and enhance payroll processes and internal controls.
• Collaborate with HR, Finance and external payroll providers.
• Resolve complex payroll queries and provide expert advice.
• Identify risks and implement solutions to increase efficiency.
• Support testing, implementation and optimisation of new payroll systems.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Payroll Manager or senior payroll professional.
• Demonstrated success delivering payroll system transformation or implementation projects.
• Deep knowledge of UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to hit the ground running in a fast‑paced interim assignment.
