Interim Payroll Manager – System Transformation

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Interim Payroll Manager to join a not‑for‑profit organisation in Romford for a three‑month period. This role will focus on maintaining accurate payroll delivery while driving system transformation and process improvements during a time of change.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support payroll system transformation and process‑improvement projects.
• Manage the end‑to‑end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payroll delivery.
• Maintain full compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, pensions and statutory payments.
• Review, improve and document payroll processes and internal controls.
• Collaborate with HR, Finance and external payroll providers as needed.
• Resolve complex payroll queries and provide expert advice.
• Identify risks and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and compliance.
• Support testing, implementation and optimisation of payroll systems.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Payroll Manager or senior payroll professional.
• Demonstrable track record delivering payroll system transformation or implementation projects.
• Extensive knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC regulations.
• Strong end‑to‑end payroll management experience, preferably in a complex organisation.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to hit the ground running in a fast‑paced interim assignment.
