Intermediate Quantity Surveyor (MEP)

About the role

1st Step Solutions is supporting a building services engineering company in Grays, Essex, which offers Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing solutions across commercial, industrial and residential sectors. The client is looking for an experienced Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team, managing the commercial side of MEP projects from pre-construction through to final account settlement. The role involves site visits and requires strong contractual knowledge, commercial awareness and the ability to work closely with project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts and cost reports
• Monitor project costs and identify commercial risks and opportunities
• Assist in preparing tender submissions and pricing exercises
• Prepare and submit client valuations and payment applications
• Manage project cash flow and ensure timely invoicing
• Administer contracts and identify contractual risks and obligations
• Prepare, submit and negotiate variations, claims and compensation events
• Support dispute resolution and commercial negotiations
• Produce monthly cost value reconciliations (CVRs) and track performance against budget and forecast
• Prepare financial reports for senior management and assist with final accounts
• Liaise with project managers, engineers, clients, consultants and subcontractors, attend meetings and build stakeholder relationships

Required profile

• 2 to 5 years' experience in a quantity surveying role
• Experience within MEP contracting or building services
• Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial management principles
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills
• Strong communication and negotiation skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and commercial reporting tools
• Contract administration and cost reporting
