About the role
The Environment Agency is seeking an Internal Auditor to provide independent assurance across its wide‑range of activities, from flood defence to waste enforcement. You will work closely with an Audit Manager to plan, execute and report on audits that strengthen governance, risk management and internal controls.
Key responsibilities
- Develop audit scopes and risk‑based testing plans in agreement with stakeholders.
- Execute fieldwork, collect evidence and assess the effectiveness of controls.
- Communicate findings clearly through exit meetings and formal audit reports.
- Maintain a portfolio of audits, ensuring quality, timeliness and budget compliance.
- Leverage data‑analytics and AI‑enabled tools to enhance audit efficiency.
Required profile
- Highly desirable: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or part‑qualified Chartered Internal Auditor (CMIIA) or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in risk‑based internal auditing.
- Proven ability to manage multiple audits simultaneously.
- Strong analytical thinking and the capacity to deliver practical, value‑adding solutions.
- Excellent written communication skills for clear, concise reporting.
