Internal Auditor – Rail Operations

About the role

DfT Operator Ltd is seeking three Internal Auditors to work within the Finance function, supporting the eight train operating companies it owns. The role involves conducting independent audits, assessing internal controls, and recommending improvements to enhance compliance, risk mitigation and operational efficiency across the rail network.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute detailed audits of operational, compliance and other departmental processes for assigned Train Operating Companies.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of the TOC Assurance Framework and core audit procedures.
• Apply audit techniques such as risk assessments, control testing and data analysis to produce thorough audit evidence.
• Prepare clear audit reports that communicate findings, conclusions and actionable recommendations.
• Build strong relationships with operational teams and senior management to promote audit value and continuous improvement.
• Support business assurance activities for major projects in line with agreed audit plans.
• Identify, document and follow up on control weaknesses and inefficiencies.
