International Transport Planner

About the role

The International Transport Planner will coordinate daily European freight movements for a growing freight forwarding business. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will optimise routes, allocate work to owner‑drivers and subcontractors, and ensure cost‑effective delivery across the UK and mainland Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate collections and deliveries across the UK and Europe.
• Allocate work to a network of owner‑drivers and subcontractors.
• Maximise vehicle utilisation while minimising empty runs.
• Monitor delivery schedules and proactively resolve operational issues.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with transport partners.
• Ensure all transport activities are commercially viable and cost‑efficient.
• Support revenue growth through effective freight‑forwarding opportunities.
• Maintain accurate operational data, pricing structures and system updates.
• Handle invoice queries and assist with KPI reporting.

Required profile

• Experience in road freight operations or transport planning.
• Strong understanding of UK and European transport networks.
• Excellent organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Commercial awareness with a focus on cost control and profitability.
• Experience planning European road‑freight movements is desirable.
• Exposure to owner‑driver and subcontractor networks.
• Knowledge of key European markets such as Benelux, France and Italy.
• Understanding of freight forwarding and margin management.
