Investment Banking Associate – Mining & Metals

About the role

The Mining & Metals Investment Banking team at National Bank of Canada Capital Markets is seeking an Associate to support deal execution and origination activities in London. You will work closely with senior bankers on strategic advisory and capital‑markets transactions, gaining exposure to complex financing and advisory mandates within the global mining and metals sector.

Key responsibilities

• Support senior members of the Metals & Mining Investment Banking team on strategic advisory and capital‑markets transactions.
• Conduct financial, valuation, market and industry analysis across the global mining & metals sector.
• Build and maintain financial models and assist in preparing client presentations, pitch materials and transaction documentation.
• Participate in client meetings, due‑diligence processes and transaction execution activities.
• Develop strong relationships with clients, advisors and internal stakeholders.
• Stay informed on industry trends, commodity markets, M&A activity and financing developments within the mining & metals sector.

Required profile

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, economics, business, engineering or related discipline with outstanding academic achievement.
• 2–4 years of experience in investment banking, transaction advisory, equity research, capital markets or related roles, preferably covering mining & metals.
• Superior analytical abilities, problem‑solving mindset and collaborative approach.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with Bloomberg and Capital IQ (preferred).
