Island Nurse – Hoy

About the role

The Island Nurse will join a small health team on Hoy, delivering comprehensive community and practice nursing services to a remote island population of around 388 residents. This role offers the chance to develop broad generalist skills while working autonomously in a supportive, peer‑connected environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan and monitor the quality of health care across the community lifespan.
• Provide community and practice nursing, including chronic disease management and health promotion.
• Deliver care without immediate hospital resources, using remote decision‑making.
• Participate in weekly Teams meetings for knowledge sharing and peer support.
• Maintain up‑to‑date clinical records and adhere to NHS standards.

Required profile

• Experienced Band 6 nurse with a strong sense of accountability.
• Adaptable, resourceful and comfortable working independently.
• Motivated to develop a wide range of skills in a remote, rural setting.
• Non‑medical prescribing qualification (essential).
