IT Systems Engineer - Linux | Infrastructure | Networking

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on IT Systems Engineer to join our growing technology team in Oxford. You will work across Linux, Windows, networking and physical hardware, supporting critical engineering systems in a hybrid environment (three days in the office).

Key responsibilities

• Build, configure and maintain physical servers, operating systems and networking equipment.
• Support Linux and Windows environments for engineering and business‑critical applications.
• Troubleshoot hardware, OS, networking and connected device issues.
• Configure managed switches, VLANs, firewalls and segmented networks.
• Integrate specialist hardware and bespoke technical equipment into the IT landscape.
• Assist with server provisioning, infrastructure deployment and system configuration.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and operational procedures.
• Contribute to automation and configuration management using tools such as Ansible, Terraform or similar.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure, DevOps and Engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Engineer or Systems Administrator.
• Strong technical troubleshooting skills across hardware, OS and networking.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a specialist infrastructure team.
