IT & Telecoms Field Engineer

About the role

The role is a hands‑on, field‑based position covering the North West of England. You will deliver on‑site installations, maintenance and support for IT and telecoms infrastructure, acting as the face of the business to clients.

Key responsibilities

• Install, terminate and test structured cabling systems (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, fibre).
• Install and configure IT and telecom equipment such as PCs, laptops, switches, routers, Wi‑Fi access points and VoIP systems.
• Perform full site installations including rack builds, patch panel terminations and cable management.
• Conduct site surveys and provide recommendations for network and IT infrastructure improvements.
• Diagnose and resolve on‑site technical issues related to networking, connectivity and telecoms.
• Document installations, testing results and handover notes for each job.
• Communicate with clients about work progress, timelines and any issues.
• Ensure health and safety compliance and adherence to structured cabling standards.

Required profile

• Technically competent with solid knowledge of structured cabling and IT/telecom equipment.
• Well‑organised and able to work independently on client sites.
• Strong communication skills to keep clients, suppliers and internal teams informed.
• Commitment to health and safety and professional presentation on site.

Required skills

• Structured cabling installation and termination (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, fibre).
• Cabling testing and certification.
• Installation and configuration of PCs, laptops, network switches, routers.
• Setup of Wi‑Fi access points and VoIP systems.
• Rack and cabinet assembly, patch panel termination, cable management.
• Site surveying and network infrastructure recommendation.
• Troubleshooting of IT, networking and telecom systems.
• Technical documentation and handover reporting.
• Knowledge of health and safety and cabling standards compliance.
