Junior Costs Negotiator

About the role

Keoghs LLP is seeking a Junior Costs Negotiator to manage the settlement of legal costs on MOD disease claims. You will work closely with the Costs team, clients, insurers and senior lawyers to drive cases from initial review to final resolution.

Key responsibilities

• Proactively review each case, develop an initial costs strategy and set settlement parameters.
• Prepare points of dispute, assess strengths and weaknesses, and document findings.
• Conduct telephone negotiations with opponents and provide regular progress reports to clients.
• Handle correspondence and calls within agreed service level agreements.
• Instruct counsel, attend conferences, detailed assessment hearings and mediations both remotely and in person.
• Attend court applications and hearings to present advocacy on behalf of the client.
• Delegate tasks to a paralegal and support their technical development.
• Ensure compliance with SRA Standards & Regulations and meet performance targets, quality standards and client KPIs.

Required profile

• Recent experience in a similar junior legal costs or litigation support role.
• Strong analytical ability to evaluate case merits and risks.
• Excellent oral communication and concise written skills.
• Ability to build effective relationships within a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to meet client SLAs, KPIs and personal development goals.
