Junior Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Junior Engineer to join our R&D team in Cambridge and help translate self‑healing concrete technology from the laboratory to real‑world infrastructure. The role is ideal for a recent graduate or early‑career scientist with a background in materials science, chemistry or related disciplines who enjoys practical laboratory work and turning research into commercial solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct exploratory research to identify chemical and material solutions that meet performance criteria.
• Design and run bench‑scale experiments, including materials screening, durability, curing, adhesion and stability tests.
• Perform rheology, viscosity, contact‑angle and other characterisation measurements.
• Analyse experimental data and relate findings to infrastructure performance requirements.
• Document methods, results and recommendations in clear technical reports.
• Support integrated testing of self‑healing concrete in simulated service environments.
• Engage with suppliers to obtain SDS, technical datasheets and formulation information.
• Maintain laboratory safety and COSHH compliance.

Required profile

• PhD or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering or a related field.
• Hands‑on laboratory experience gained through industry, university research or a placement.
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to work in a small, fast‑moving R&D team.
