Junior Maintenance Engineer – Electrical Focus

About the role

We are seeking a Junior Maintenance Engineer with an electrical bias to join a well‑established manufacturing business in Newton Aycliffe. The role offers the chance to develop engineering skills across mechanical and electrical disciplines while supporting production machinery on a rotating shift pattern.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Engineering Supervisor in reducing machine downtime through improved maintenance programmes and continuous improvement ideas.
• Execute planned maintenance (DPM/PPM) schedules and record breakdowns and faults daily.
• Perform routine property, facility and statutory checks, and support hydraulic and pneumatic system maintenance.
• Liaise with cell leaders and external service providers, adhering to permit‑to‑work and health & safety procedures.
• Monitor engineering stock usage and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Mechanical aptitude is desirable; electrical competence (e.g., Electrical 18 Edition) preferred.
• Familiarity with health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Basic IT literacy.

Required skills

• Electrical 18 Edition qualification (desirable).
• Knowledge of PLC control systems.
• Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Experience with DPM/PPM maintenance procedures.
