Junior Project Manager – Energy (Engineering & Construction)

About the role

ALTEN is seeking a Junior Project Manager to join its Manchester‑based team and support major infrastructure and nuclear‑sector projects. The role will involve delivering multidisciplinary engineering and construction projects from concept through handover while ensuring safety, quality and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of major projects from concept to handover.
• Develop and implement engineering design, contract and execution strategies.
• Manage multi‑discipline EPCM projects across engineering, procurement and construction phases.
• Apply estimating, scheduling, programming and Earned Value Management techniques.
• Monitor and control cost, risk, change and overall project performance.
• Manage contracts under NEC and FIDIC frameworks and oversee procurement strategies.
• Handle commercial claims, negotiations and dispute resolution.
• Engage with clients, contractors, consultants and regulators, providing clear presentations and updates.
• Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, nuclear quality standards and environmental/security requirements.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of project management frameworks aligned with APM Competency Standards.
• Proven leadership capability on complex, high‑value engineering projects.
• Experience with project controls tools (cost, planning, risk, EVM).
• Understanding of CDM Regulations and nuclear quality assurance approaches.
• Ability to work on‑site 3‑4 days per week and obtain BPSS clearance.
