Junior Sister – Band 6 Nurse, Poplar Ward

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Band 6 Nurse (Junior Sister) to join the Poplar Ward within the Division of Surgery & Cancer at Whipps Cross Hospital, London. The role involves delivering high‑quality adult nursing care to a busy patient population in a dynamic, community‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to in‑patients on Poplar Ward, supporting over 77,000 inpatient stays annually.
• Collaborate closely with the Ward Manager to ensure safe, compassionate care aligned with NHS Long‑Term Plan objectives.
• Lead and mentor junior staff, demonstrating strong leadership and management skills.
• Contribute to the delivery of harm‑free, patient‑centred services across the Surgery & Cancer division.

Required profile

• Registered adult nurse with a broad range of clinical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a high‑pressure A&E environment (152,000 attendances per year).
• Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork abilities.
• Commitment to the NHS values of inclusion, safety and compassionate care.
