Kitchen Assistant – Care Home

About the role

You will support the Chef in preparing and cooking nutritious meals for residents of Sherrell Care Home, following individual dietary requirements and maintaining high hygiene standards. The role involves fast‑paced kitchen work and direct interaction with residents during mealtimes.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Chef in preparing and cooking fresh, healthy meals.
• Follow scheduled meal plans and cater to individual dietary needs.
• Maintain excellent hygiene and food safety standards.
• Support residents during dining, respecting their choices and preferences.
• Check kitchen equipment and report any faults.
• Adhere to Health & Safety, basic food hygiene, COSHH, safe moving and handling, and cross‑infection guidelines.

Required profile

• Experience cooking for large numbers of people.
• Passion for preparing fresh, homemade food.
• NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in catering/hospitality.
• At least 2 years’ experience in a catering environment.
• 12 months’ experience managing a kitchen.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Basic Food Hygiene knowledge.
• Understanding of COSHH regulations.
• Safe moving and handling procedures.
• Cross‑infection control practices.
