Kitchen Assistant

About the role

Join the compassionate team at Hunters Down Care Home in Huntingdon as a Kitchen Assistant. You will help deliver high‑quality, nutritious meals to residents, supporting the chef and ensuring a pleasant dining experience.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the chef in preparing and cooking fresh, healthy meals for care‑home residents.
• Follow scheduled meal plans and respect individual dietary requirements.
• Maintain excellent hygiene standards and adhere to food safety regulations.
• Support residents during mealtimes and contribute to a positive dining environment.
• Check kitchen equipment, report faults, and ensure safe handling of food.
• Apply Health & Safety guidelines, including basic food hygiene, COSHH, and cross‑infection control.

Required profile

• At least 2 years’ experience in a catering environment, preferably serving large numbers.
• Passion for preparing fresh, homemade food.
• NVQ Level 2 in catering and hospitality or equivalent experience.
• Experience managing a kitchen for at least 12 months.
• Strong interpersonal skills for working with residents and team members.

Required skills

• NVQ Level 2 catering (or equivalent).
• Food hygiene knowledge.
• COSHH awareness.
• Health & safety and cross‑infection control.
