Kitchen Manager

About the role

The Kitchen Manager will lead the catering operation for Outwood Academy Normanby and other school sites in the Redcar area. Working 35 hours per week on a term‑time basis, you will ensure high‑quality food service, compliance with health and safety standards, and a positive experience for students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Consult with clients on menu planning and incorporate feedback.
• Ensure all food preparation follows approved recipes, presentation standards, and pricing.
• Maintain compliance with supplier contracts and approved product lists.
• Engage regularly with clients to assess service standards and implement improvements.
• Plan and deliver events and activities that enhance the catering experience.
• Lead, motivate, and develop the kitchen team in line with company policies.
• Conduct recruitment, induction, and ongoing training, including health‑and‑safety briefings.
• Act as the Health & Safety champion for the site, promoting a safe working environment.

Required profile

• Proven people‑leadership experience in a food‑service environment.
• Relevant food‑industry qualifications or experience.
• Ability to work independently with a structured, logical approach.
• Relevant health‑and‑safety qualification, preferably IOSH.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with standard computer programmes used in catering operations.
• Understanding of safeguarding requirements and willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS with Child Barred List check.
