KS3 & KS4 English Teacher (SEMH) – Full‑time

About the role
Philpots Manor School, a specialist independent SEMH provision in rural East Grinstead, is looking for a passionate KS3 & KS4 English Teacher. You will deliver high‑quality English language and literature lessons while providing strong pastoral support to learners with social, emotional and mental health needs.
Key responsibilities
- Create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment for SEMH students.
- Plan and deliver differentiated English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Teach both English Language and Literature, adapting content to individual learner needs.
- Collaborate closely with teaching assistants and support staff to maximise progress.
- Implement effective behaviour management strategies and maintain high expectations.
- Monitor and record student progress, adjusting teaching approaches as required.
- Develop students' literacy, reading, and writing skills across the curriculum.
- Build positive relationships with students, parents/carers, and colleagues.
- Contribute to EHCP reviews, intervention planning, and whole‑school development initiatives.
- Support the personal, social, and emotional development of all pupils.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4.
- Interest or experience in SEMH and SEN education.
- Knowledge of the English curriculum and GCSE requirements.
- Strong behaviour management and relationship‑based teaching skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
- Positive, resilient, and collaborative approach within a multidisciplinary team.
- Full driving licence and access to transport.
