Laboratory Medicine IT Specialist

About the role

This position supports the Laboratory IT Lead in delivering upgrades to ICE Order Communications, advancing Digital Pathology within Histology, and maintaining laboratory IT systems across the Trust. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure smooth implementation and operation of key laboratory applications.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with upgrades to ICE Order Communications and Digital Pathology initiatives.
• Support implementation, integration, testing, and optimisation of laboratory information systems such as WinPath, Instrument Manager, ICE and EPR‑related applications.
• Provide technical and operational support to laboratory staff, IT teams, suppliers and other stakeholders.
• Deliver user training, guidance and troubleshooting for small to medium‑scale projects.
• Manage system changes, maintain programme records, analyse data and contribute to business cases.
• Support audits, monitor project progress, identify risks and promote effective use of technology to improve laboratory services and patient care.

Required skills

• Experience with WinPath laboratory information system.
• Familiarity with Instrument Manager software.
• Knowledge of ICE Order Communications platform.
• Understanding of EPR‑related applications and Digital Pathology systems.
