Large Case Life Underwriter

About the role

Zurich is seeking a detail‑focused Large Case Life Underwriter to assess high‑value life, critical illness and income protection applications. The role can be part‑time, job‑share or full‑time and is offered on a flexible, home‑working basis.

Key responsibilities

• Assess complex life insurance applications and make timely, high‑quality decisions in line with Zurich’s underwriting philosophy.
• Analyse medical reports, financial documentation and risk factors to determine appropriate pricing.
• Liaise with Reassurers, Sales and Pricing teams to create bespoke, competitive offers.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with strategic accounts and internal colleagues.
• Mentor and train junior team members and support the inbound phone line when required.

Required profile

• Authority to underwrite high‑value protection products (life, critical illness, income protection).
• Experience in large‑case or high‑net‑worth life underwriting, with current authority for life cover of £1.5 million or more.
• Strong analytical ability and proven track record of delivering quality results.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence to explain decisions.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
