Layout and Installation Assemblies Engineer (Site Specific)

About the role

The Layout and Installation Assemblies Engineer (Site Specific) will join a focused team delivering modular reactor island designs for a Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme. Working in a hybrid model from Derby, Warrington or Manchester, you will translate generic SMR concepts into site‑specific mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) layouts that meet safety, cost and schedule targets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and progress Reactor Island layout and installation designs through gated design‑review processes.
• Define layout and installation strategies for MEP modules, ensuring alignment with system and component requirements.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders and customers to capture requirements, resolve integration challenges and support configuration management.
• Identify risks, contribute to technical decision‑making and support constructability, manufacturing and commissioning strategies.
• Produce technical documentation and inputs for design reviews and safety case development.

Required profile

• Degree‑qualified in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with Chartered status (or working towards it).
• Strong structured thinking, problem‑solving ability and a collaborative approach.
• Experience translating complex engineering requirements into practical, buildable solutions.
