About the role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Anaesthetics Practitioner to provide clinical and operational leadership for the anaesthetic team at Springfield Hospital, Chelmsford. You will ensure safe, high‑quality peri‑operative care while supporting workforce development and efficient theatre utilisation.
Key responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and support to the anaesthetic practitioner team, promoting patient safety and high standards of care.
- Coordinate day‑to‑day delivery of anaesthetic services, managing staffing, theatre utilisation and operational efficiency.
- Maintain compliance with professional standards, policies and clinical governance, including audits and incident investigations.
- Lead training, competency assessments and professional development for practitioners and students.
- Collaborate with consultant anaesthetists, theatre teams and hospital stakeholders to drive service improvement and positive patient outcomes.
- Contribute to service development, change initiatives and continuous quality improvement.
Required profile
- Registered Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) or Registered Nurse (NMC).
- ILS/ALS certification.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in anaesthetics, including senior or lead‑level roles.
- Proven experience leading and coordinating teams within a theatre environment.
- Experience in staff supervision, mentoring and performance management.
- Knowledge of clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement.
