Lead Data Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join FSP Consulting’s Data & AI function in Reading. The role will work closely with architects and consultants to design and deliver enterprise‑scale data solutions on cloud platforms, helping clients unlock insights and automate decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical design and architecture discussions across multiple projects.
• Mentor and coach a team of Data Engineers, providing guidance and best‑practice standards.
• Collaborate with customers to understand requirements and design high‑quality data solutions.
• Develop cloud‑native data products, including data lake patterns and lakehouse architectures.
• Engineer batch and streaming pipelines using Azure Databricks, PySpark and related tools.
• Provide technical support through prototyping, testing, build and launch phases.
• Produce technical documentation and contribute to continuous improvement of development standards.

Required profile

• Extensive experience delivering enterprise‑scale data engineering solutions.
• Strong hands‑on expertise with Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Platform services.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL development.
• Demonstrated ability to build batch and streaming pipelines and implement Medallion Architecture.
• Solid understanding of data modelling techniques such as dimensional, star schema and data vault.
• Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, DevOps practices and Git‑based source control.
• Knowledge of data governance, security and access control frameworks.
