Lead Electrical Engineer – 6 month contract (£65ph)

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer for a 6‑month contract based in Ampthill. You will join a market‑leading defence and aerospace company, working on mixed electrical/electronic solutions from concept to completion.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and support electrical/electronic hardware following a phase‑gate process.
• Define processes, specifications and procedures for electrical hardware manufacture.
• Review supplier capabilities and facilitate source selection.
• Develop functional and physical design requirements for integrated architecture.
• Design circuitry including power electronics, harnesses and 28 V high‑current systems.
• Analyse, test and evaluate circuits, components and protection schemes.
• Produce technical documentation for trade studies, compliance evidence and test reports.

Required profile

• Formal electrical qualification (HNC, HND, BEng or equivalent).
• Experience in electrical hardware design and product development for harsh environments.
• Knowledge of electrical derating, stress and tolerance analysis.
• Familiarity with design tools such as Zuken or Harnware.
• EMC awareness at product and circuit level.
• Understanding of Def‑Stan/Mil standards, safety and quality processes.
• Ability to support assembly, integration and test activities.
• Experience using lab test equipment for circuit debugging.
• Experience with PLM tools (e.g., Windchill).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
