Lead Infrastructure Specialist – Security

About the role

Lead the security engineering function for a nationally significant technology estate, protecting critical infrastructure across England and Wales. Based in Plymouth, you will provide senior technical leadership to design, implement and manage cyber‑security controls and drive continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the recognised security subject‑matter expert, overseeing design, implementation and management of security controls and assessment processes.
• Provide technical leadership across security engineering, cyber defence, assurance and incident management.
• Lead the evolution of security controls, assessment methodologies and cyber‑resilience capabilities.
• Influence infrastructure and security decisions to align with business and technology strategy.
• Collaborate with architects, technical leads, suppliers and delivery teams to deliver secure, resilient solutions.
• Mentor and coach engineering teams, fostering capability and best practice.
• Support operational service delivery, infrastructure change and technology transformation programmes.

Required profile

• Degree‑level qualification in IT or equivalent industry experience.
• Advanced expertise in at least three security technologies or disciplines.
• Proven experience assessing security controls, posture and prioritising risk‑based improvements.
• Demonstrated ability to design, engineer and manage secure systems and infrastructure.
• Experience planning and leading large‑scale infrastructure change programmes.
• Strong technical leadership experience within complex enterprise environments.

Required skills

• PAM, ADFS, Firewalls, Entra, SIEM, EDR/XDR, CTEM, WAF/DDoS, PKI, SASE, IDS/IPS.
• Security assurance frameworks, incident response, cryptographic systems.
