Lead Laboratory Accessioner – Bristol

About the role

The Lead Laboratory Accessioner will oversee day‑to‑day accessioning activities in our Bristol laboratory, ensuring specimens are processed accurately and on time. This role coordinates workflow, manages slide handling, and provides first‑line troubleshooting for scanners and other equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor throughput, assign tasks and maintain accurate records and communication boards.
• Manage pathology rotas, handle unplanned absences and ensure fair work allocation.
• Oversee slide storage, recovery and allocation for molecular, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry testing.
• Support specimen receipt, staging, storage and coordinate purchasing to maintain par levels.
• Orchestrate scanner throughput, perform first‑line troubleshooting and escalation.
• Lead exception/rejection processes and ensure timely resolution of problematic samples.
• Audit accession‑to‑billing data and liaise with Customer Relations for corrections.
• Provide customer service support, monitor email, handle phone calls and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• GCSEs or equivalent; Associate degree preferred.
• 2+ years accessioning or data‑entry experience, preferably with supervisory responsibilities.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb, stand or walk for extended periods and wear PPE as required.
