Learning Mentor (SEND) – Support Students with Special Needs

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a compassionate Learning Mentor (SEND) to join a South East London school. You will work directly with pupils who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, helping them overcome learning barriers, build confidence, and develop independence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group mentoring for SEND students.
• Support academic, social, emotional and behavioural development.
• Assist in implementing individual learning plans and targeted interventions.
• Build positive relationships with students, families, staff and external agencies.
• Monitor progress, keep accurate records and report outcomes.
• Promote inclusion so students can fully participate in school activities.
• Encourage resilience, self‑esteem and positive learning behaviours.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, empathetic and supportive approach.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices.
• Relevant qualifications in education, mentoring, youth work or SEND support are desirable.

Required skills

• No specific technical skills required.
