Learning Mentor – Support Young Learners in Newham

About the role
We are seeking enthusiastic Learning Mentors to work with primary school students in Newham. In this role you will help pupils overcome academic and personal challenges, fostering both emotional well‑being and educational progress.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one mentoring and guidance to support behavioural development.
- Assist students with special educational needs (SEN) in setting and achieving personal and academic targets.
- Engage in a variety of learning activities and programmes to reinforce classroom teaching.
- Implement strategies to manage and de‑escalate challenging behaviours.
- Act as a positive role model, building confidence and self‑esteem.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, parents and other mentors to create a comprehensive support network.
Required profile
- Previous experience as a Behaviour or Learning Mentor (preferred).
- Background in SEN, challenging behaviour, coaching or youth work is highly desirable.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
- Empathetic, patient and resilient nature.
