Learning Support Assistant – Alternative Provision

About the role

This full‑time position offers the chance to support children and young people in an alternative provision setting in Maldon, Essex. You will work closely with teachers, the SENCO and leadership teams to help pupils re‑engage with learning and develop essential life skills.

Key responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model.
• Deliver bespoke intervention programmes and monitor progress.
• Assist with lesson preparation, resource development and use ICT to enhance learning.
• Promote positive behaviour and maintain a safe, structured environment.
• Support reintegration plans and transition pathways for pupils.
• Record and report on pupil progress, behaviour and achievement.
• Collaborate with colleagues, families and external agencies.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to pupil wellbeing.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Ability to build consistent, positive relationships with hard‑to‑reach learners.
• Calm, resilient and capable of managing challenging behaviour.
• Strong communication skills and a team‑oriented attitude.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality and inclusive practice.
• Willingness to engage in ongoing training, including trauma‑informed approaches.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using ICT tools for educational purposes.
