Learning Support Assistant – Alternative Provision School

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join an Alternative Provision school in West Sussex. You will work with young people who have been excluded, are at risk of exclusion, or are out of education for medical reasons, helping them overcome barriers and achieve their potential.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs both inside and outside the classroom.
• Build trusting relationships and create a safe, engaging learning environment.
• Collaborate with teachers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver personalised support.
• Assist students in regulating emotions and fostering positive engagement with learning.
• Encourage confidence, independence, and personal growth.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH, SEN, or additional needs.
• Calm, patient, resilient attitude with strong communication skills.
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
• Ability to adapt quickly and think on your feet.
