Learning Support Assistant – ASD Specialist

About the role

A welcoming SEN secondary school in Southwark is looking for two dedicated Learning Support Assistants to join its specialist ASD provision from September 2026. You will work closely with teachers and the SEN team to help pupils with autism and other neurodivergent needs access the curriculum and develop essential life skills.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils within specialist SEN classes, both 1:1 and in small groups.
• Assist with communication, sensory, and emotional regulation strategies.
• Encourage independence, engagement and positive behaviour in line with school policies.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and parents as required.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year experience working in a UK classroom.
• Previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly ASD.
• Patient, proactive, adaptable with strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.

Required skills

• Knowledge of PECS and Makaton communication systems.
• Familiarity with sensory regulation strategies.
