Learning Support Assistant / Aspiring Child Counsellor (SEMH)

About the role
This Learning Support Assistant (LSA) / Aspiring Child Counsellor position supports vulnerable secondary‑aged students in Crawley who have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will help create a safe, consistent environment that encourages engagement, attainment and long‑term life chances.
Key responsibilities
- Provide pastoral and emotional support to students at risk of exclusion or already excluded.
- Assist teachers in delivering lessons and managing classroom behaviour.
- Work with safeguarding teams to ensure student safety.
- Help students develop coping strategies and resilience.
- Maintain clear records of student progress and interventions.
Required profile
- Passionate about helping children and young people reach their potential.
- Ability to build confidence, motivation and strong relationships with students.
- Calm and resilient in stressful or conflict situations.
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
- Right to work in the UK; no visa sponsorship available.
- Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Criminology or related field is advantageous but not essential.
Required skills

- £102.96 per day (PAYE), Monday‑Friday 08:30‑15:30, term‑time only.
- Excellent on‑site training, continuous professional development and CPD.
- Start date in September with trial days to ensure a good fit.
