Learning Support Assistant – BSL (Level 3) – Secondary School

About the role

This fixed‑term position (1 year, starting September 2026) supports Deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students in a secondary school in West Sussex. Working 32.5 hours per week on a term‑time basis, you will help pupils access the curriculum, participate fully in school life, and develop confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Use British Sign Language to facilitate communication between students, staff and peers.
• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support during lessons, break times, extracurricular activities and educational visits.
• Adapt learning materials and classroom activities to meet individual needs.
• Promote independence and engagement, offering personal care when required.
• Collaborate with teachers, senior leaders, parents and external professionals.

Required profile

• Minimum BSL Level 2 qualification (Level 3 desirable).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, resilience and adaptability.
• Passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
• Strong organisational ability and initiative.
